“SCHOOL NEWS”
Faith, Family Spirit & Academic Excellence
Our students continue to impress us with their generosity and
sense of commitment for their neighbors both near and far. They have raised in excess of $2,000 for a
number of charities and community causes (Fire victims, Haiti Relief, and
Children’s Wish Foundation). We continue
to contribute to Operation Rice Bowl this Lenten season sponsored by Catholic
Relief Services. Ed Merritt, President
and CEO of the Mt. Washington Bank, visited the school this week and will be
coming back to present a savings workshop for our 6th graders. Ed and his employees have been very
supportive and generous to SBCA this year.
Spring Raffle tickets will be available March 10th. Thanks to all of our neighbors and families

Parish Lenten Activity for the Homebound
Please
join us in a special parish activity this Lenten season where we will be
sending cards to homebound members of our parish family. Beginning on the weekend of March 13th and 14th,
we will have a basket in the back of the church after the Masses so that you
can pick up an envelope with the name of a parishioner. We ask that you purchase a card (it can be an
Easter card or just a “thinking of you” type card), and write a little
note. Please return the card at one of
the Masses the week-end of March 20th
and 21st along with
the envelope you picked up containing the name of the person to receive your
card. The cards and notes will be sent
from the parish office the following week. If you would like to have someone receive one
of these cards, please contact the parish office to have them included in this activity. If you have questions, please contact Diane
Keighley 617-269-1618.

WAYS THAT YOU CAN HELP
SOUTH BOSTON CATHOLIC ACADEMY
Thank you to the SBCA parent who won the Boxtops contest sponsored
by Shaw’s supermarket. She earned the
school $8,000!
There is still plenty of time to sign your Stop and Shop Card to
support our school. To do so, just call
1-877-275-2758 or visit www.stopandshop.com/aplus
and use our school code: 06612. The school will earn 1% of all purchases once
you’ve designated our school. We have
earned over $800 since the program began in October. This program will run through the end of
March.
Attention all parishioners with Direct TV. Our school will earn $50 for every existing
customer and $100 for each new customer who calls 1-888-388-4724 and continues
with one year of service. Just give our
school code B2543.
THE 2010 CENSUS: COMING SOON
As the 2010 Census approaches, each of our households will receive
a form. Since the census has such an
impact on the communities in which all of us live and work, our organization
has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to encourage participation. As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, every
person living in the United States must be counted – both citizens and
non-citizens. Data from this national
count help determine key funding and government representation decisions. Please complete and mail back your form and
encourage your family, friends and neighbors to do the same. For more information, visit 2010census.gov.
CATHOLIC APPEAL THIS WEEKEND
This weekend will be Catholic Appeal Weekend here at Gate of
Heaven and St. Brigid Parishes. We, like
all parishes throughout our Archdiocese, showed a video message from Cardinal
Sean at all Masses last weekend asking every Catholic household to participate
by making a pledge. Please know that
your participation matters and will make a difference. As a Catholic community, we are called during
this season of lent to love and share our blessings with our brothers and
sisters in Christ. Participation in the
Catholic Appeal, a once-a-year pledge drive to benefit the many central
ministries and services of the Archdiocese, is one way for us to answer His
call. The Appeal is to our Archdiocese
what the weekly offertory is to our parish.
Because of the economic downturn, support of the Catholic Appeal is more
urgent this year. Please see the
information packets in the Church to learn more and to obtain a pledge
form. Cardinal Sean thanks all the families
that contributed to the 2009 Catholic Appeal.
Thank you in advance for joining with parishioners throughout our
Archdiocese’s 291 parishes to carry on and renew the broader mission of our
Church.
